Kate Grace, Director of Service Learning

Personal Biography

For the past twelve years, Kate Grace has worked in community-focused positions, ranging from working with families in crisis to leading community improvement projects in Atlanta’s low-income communities. Ms. Grace currently manages all service-learning activities of the CHRC, annually creating and managing over 40 university-community partnerships and several year-long fellowships.

Ms. Grace began her career in rural North Carolina where she worked as a Child Protective Services Treatment Social Worker for the Gaston County Department of Social Services. In this role, Ms. Grace provided intervention for families dealing with child abuse, working with families to provide for the health, welfare and safety of their children.

Since joining the Community Housing Resource Center in 1997, Ms. Grace has filled many roles, beginning with her experience as a Project Manager to her current position as Director of Service Learning. In her tenure with the CHRC, Ms. Grace has met many needs of a small nonprofit organization including financial management, fundraising, project management, human resource management, board development and facilitation, organizational reporting and planning, and information technology. This well-rounded experience in community service, social work and nonprofit administration positions Ms. Grace well to assist a wide variety of organizations in meeting their goals.

Ms. Grace serves as Vice President of the Atlanta Housing Association of Neighborhood-based Developers (AHAND), the trade association of Community Development Corporations in Metropolitan Atlanta. She was recently named the 2005 AHAND Member of the Year at the Georgia Affordable Housing Conference. She is an Advisory Board Member of the SouthStar Community Development Corporation and served as a committee chair for the Atlanta Alliance for Community Development Investment.

Ms. Grace holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama and has completed numerous training programs to enhance her community development and social service skills. Ms. Grace, her husband Joe Grace and their twin daughters live in Decatur, GA.
