There are a number of nonprofit and grant making organizations providing home rehabilitation in the Atlanta area. The two major sources of funding for home rehabilitation are nonprofit organizations engaged in rehab and government authorities offering grants. Neighbors helping neighbors in time of need bring valuable resources together providing services that otherwise may not be obtainable.
The nonprofit and grant making organizations often target a certain geographic area or a specific population to which they provide their services. Funding may not always be available and these organizations often have waiting lists. In addition, you should consider contacting a church or a community association of which you are a member; oftentimes they can provide either the supplies or volunteers in cooperation with a nonprofit organization which does rehab work.
When contacting these organizations be prepared to provide information on the members of your household, including the age and income of each person. This information will help determine whether you qualify for a specific program. Make note of any specific requirements and write down the name of the individual with whom you speak.
Provided you qualify for repair services, be sure to ask about the process for getting work done and how long it will take. If someone will be coming to your home to assess damage, get the name and date that you should expect him/her.
Knowing what to expect may help ease the frustration of the qualifying process.
