Home Repair is an essential element of any revitalization initiative, serving as an effective anti-gentrification measure as well a complement to surrounding in-fill and rehab efforts. The Home Repair Program provides a quick and effective response to hazardous conditions immediately threatening the safety and health of low and very low-income homeowners in Atlanta. Over and beyond simply fixing housing problems, Counselors understand that housing problems are often symptoms of larger problems like isolation or depression. The CHRC's dedicated Housing Counselors work to reconnect residents to their community networks and patch some of the supports that need to be in place over time.

Housing Counselors review homeowner requests for assistance, accept into the program those who qualify, and provide extensive information on other resources if the owner does not qualify. Counselors then conduct a site visit to interview the homeowner, go over the program, and inspect the home. After intake paperwork is completed, the repair needs assessed, and work orders prepared, the work is carried out by licensed, professional, city-approved contractors. Through this process, the Counselors are in contact with the home owners, guiding them through the process and searching out opportunities to strengthen their connections to resources and long-term supports in their communities. The Home Repair Program thus promotes neighborhood stability, preserves Atlanta's affordable housing stock, maintains the affordability of homes in low and very low-income neighborhoods.
