In addition to emergency home repair, standard home accessibility modification is a tested way of allowing seniors to remain at home and in essence "age in place." With age comes fragility. If a home is not retrofitted to accommodate frailty, the ability of the homeowner to remain in his or her home is impaired. There are limited home inspection services available to homeowners that identify accessibility barriers in a residence and make modification recommendations. The CHRC, in conjunction with the ARC's Division on Aging (the Atlanta region's Area Agency on Aging), has been working to develop an accessibility inspection program that will deliver just such a service. |
