Aaron A. Sampson, Executive Director Personal Biography Aaron A. Sampson, Jr. has lived in Atlanta for 12 years and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Community Housing Resource Center (CHRC). The mission of the CHRC is to provide and support affordable housing choices in underserved communities. We serve low-income individuals, primarily seniors and disabled adults with housing problems; design professionals by providing opportunities for public interest work; and the University system and community-based organizations by providing service learning opportunities. Our strategic approach is to focus on the two most important aspects of a community -- houses and people. Before joining the CHRC, Mr. Sampson served as the Executive Director of the Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House and as the founding Executive Director of The National Football League's Youth Education Town of Atlanta. The Hospitality House provides lodging, meals, transportation, comfort, support, and care, in a home-like environment to individuals who live outside the Atlanta area but receive medical care in an area hospital. NFL/YET is a youth enrichment program serving young people and their families. Prior to managing NFL/YET he was employed by Emory University. Mr. Sampson has a strong commitment to his community and is an active volunteer with several community service organizations. For six years (1994 - 2000) he was a member of the Board of Directors for Hands On Atlanta, HOA is one of the leading volunteer service organizations in the nation, has a volunteer corps of over 25,000 committed individuals, and sponsors approximately 350 service projects each month. In 1995 he served as the chairperson for the Hands On Atlanta Day Serve-A-Thon, which engaged 12,000 volunteers in 150 projects throughout Atlanta. Mr. Sampson is also on the Board of Directors for Girls Incorporated, The Artimas Society of The Fernbank Museum, and is a member of the Fulton County Education Foundation. Aaron has also been active with G-CAPP, G-PIE, several youth mentoring programs, and since 1998 he has been a member of the Downtown Atlanta Kiwanis Club, and joined its board in 2001. In 1999 Aaron was selected as one of ten Outstanding Atlantans for his commitment to improving the lives of those who are less fortunate, and to improving society as a whole. The middle of three children, Aaron comes from a strong military family, has traveled throughout much of the United States and the world, and has interacted with individuals from a wide variety of cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1988 with degrees in Political Science and Journalism. In 1991 he received his Masters Degree from The University of Vermont in Public Administration, with an emphasis in the management of non-profit organizations. In 2000 Aaron married Terri L. Rosen. They live in the Inman Park neighborhood with their two daughters Nora Lee & Evelyn Erin. |
